Pineapple Lies started out a little slow and "Folksy" with our heroine Charlotte expressing her sarcastic wit and her thoughts going on multiple side tangents. Mariska , Darla, Bob and Frank ground the story. Jackie and Seamus bring a edge of mystery and intrigue. Declan's character rounds out the story by providing a budding and sweet romance. I wasn't sure that I was going to like this cozy Mystery/Romance because it started out more like a sarcastic slice of contemporary small town life and not how I anticipate. By the second chapter, I was hooked.

Pineapple Mystery Box was both well written and more complex focusing on blending multiple story-lines and mysteries. Just the right blend of community interaction, mystery, intrigue, romance and humor. Amy Vasant continues to expand the Characters from Pineapple Lies. Mariska and Darla continue to provide motherly love, Darla and Justine provide some intrigue, Justine and Seamus's romance continues to build, Charlotte gets help from the community as well as Seamaus and Frank to train as a PI , and Charlotte and Declan's romance heats up. New characters were introduced giving you hints of what is to come in future novels. I like how this novel was a complex full length cozy mystery that was focused more of the plots and less on how scattered Charlotte's thoughts are.

The scene is set with recently retired Alex from Philadelphia, PA meeting the bartender and famous wooden jigsaw puzzle maker Pat. A gruesome killing spree ensues with a puzzle piece left at each scene. Charlotte who is interning with Sheriff Frank to gain hours towards her PI license becomes embroiled in solving the mystery of the puzzle killer but also has to contend with the return of Declan's less than nice ex the lawyer Stephanie. Action packed and sometimes gruesome with comic relief from a hairless cat, the sheriff's dispatcher Ruby, Declan's new employee Blade, and the ladies who love Charlotte.

This was a well thought out and developed story. I enjoyed the characters and the mysteries were done really well. Sure, it was a bit hard to believe Charlotte would have been allowed to stay in her grandmother's home after she died, being so young, but it did set up a great family dynamic. If nothing else, I need to keep reading to find out what the deal with Blade is lol.
I got these mysteries because they were offered. Having just transitioned into a senior community I had to face the fact that I am a senior citizen. I feel more like I am my early 20s and have been left here by the death of my parents. The fact is, I have been shelved here by my sisters and my parents have been dead for years. At least they found me a place to live with people are cordial and generous and interesting. The Van Sant mysteries take place in Pineapple Port Florida. The protagonist is a twenty-something girl who grew up in pineapple port after her mother dies and has been adopted by the residents. That in itself makes for a quirky heroine and colleagues and makes this series off-the-wall and fun.
If you like cozy mysteries this one is for you. The mysteries are too hard to solve but they do require you to pay attention. After all, how many female serial killers have you read about in the newspapers or in books? I have met some females who could easily pass for serial killers but they were just nasty people. We make the hell that we live in and we dream up the hell we live in. The same is true of these mysteries. I wouldn't mind a pawnshop owner of Irish descent named Declan who looks the way he is described in the Pineapple Port mysteries. I don't know too many women who would not like to be chased or courted by Declan or even his Irish uncle Seamus. There are dogs and cats aplenty and one naked cat called Mr. Coppertone. As is common in senior communities, all types of seniors live there. The cast of characters includes women married to cops, women living with men who belong to a Bourbon club, and women living alone who payback rude people they bump into with comeuppance that include extreme prejudice.
Young men see their future in their elderly relatives or just make them comfortable while they slip into the arms of cancer and awaken to the joys of mystery plants pulled from someone's yard and transplanted for their pleasure. There are card parties and water aerobics for the residents but nothing too strenuous for their seniors. At least it keeps them busy and keeps them mostly out of trouble. The mysteries are entertaining and fraught with love affairs gone bad and lovers who are more like predators than prey. It takes all kinds and most of them can be found in pineapple port when they aren't decorating their houses with inflatable Witchy Poo's and flamingos dressed in Santa clothes. What a place for young girl to grow up in when she has filled her life with aunties and uncles and mysteries. For cozy mystery, this is worth the time. At least it's fun.
Easy reading and fun. Initially the set up in the retirement village is interesting but becomes predictable and limiting further into the series.
If you like cozy, very funny mysteries, you will really enjoy this series! The setting is a retirement community in Florida, and the humor associated with such a venue is spot on. The main character is a young woman who grew up in the community, and her supporting characters range from senior citizens, each with his/her own quirks, to a sexy pawnshop owner who provides romantic interest. I previously read the first book in the series and was delighted to see that Amy Vansant had written two more books about these engaging, hilarious characters. I hope the series continues as I truly enjoy visiting Pineapple Port!
Unlimited although must have gotten the first one on a freebie day or whatever. Cute little mysteries, but my problem was that they were also a bit too chick cutesy, but if you don't have ick factor on that then may well be a 5 star for you. They probably go in to the 'cozy' variety which no big deal about that just explaining, do read lot of those myself. Relatively quick fun read, depending on your reading speed/preference of course.
